First Exam

“I figured something out. The future is unpredictable.” – John Green, An Abundance of Katherines

So today we’re back with English, the reason is I’m in college and have no German keyboard…

I just came out of my first exam and kind of want to puke right now, but I’m probably get thrown out of the library if I do and that’s really not the goal of today. So let’s talk about my exam:
Today I had my English speaking exam which means I have to have a recorded conversation with my teacher for about 10-15 minutes which get send to Cambridge where it gets marked by some stranger. And that’s freaking me out.

My teacher knows how good/bad my English is, but this person doesn’t.
As those exams had been going on the whole week I already heard of some topics that could be mine. My least favourite were Economics, Mathematics and Population and I really hoped to get Books and Movies, but guess what I got Mathematics.

When I was sitting there reading the questions that I would get asked in a minute I was really horrified. I had no idea for what I use maths for in my everyday life, what could be a problem if a person doesn’t know maths and so on.
The only question I really had an answer for was the last one, which is kind of crazy because during practising I never knew an answer for the last one.

The question was if I agree with the theory that mathematics can explain everything.
And I am so so happy that I re-read “An Abundance of Katherines” by John Green last month. The book basically has this as its main question (and answers it) and so I ended up talking about it. I also mentioned Steven Hawking, but my knowledge about him isn’t that good so I dropped that topic.

Even though I hadn’t have books as my topics I kind of only talked about them, what probably saved me a better grade. To be honest at the beginning I answered a bit short and forgot vocabulary and and and, it was terrible, but my book-vocabulary is much better and let’s hope I get a kind examiner.

Actually I know I haven’t failed. Over the last week we listened to a lot of older speaking exams from other students and in the end they told us their grades, so I can predict my grade a bit, the last time I got a B so it’ll probably be a B again or maybe better (my English should have improved since Christmas).

And the moral of this is (even though it doesn’t really fit):
